Ventilation - Cools Homes and Saves Energy

Too often, attic ventilation is overlooked, not to mention ignored as a place for energy savings. That’s where GPD's solutions make sense. Consider this: air trapped in your attic can easily reach 150˚ or more. With Broan ventilation solutions, it’s still a full 60˚ cooler in the attic on a 90˚ day. That’s why attic ventilation is critical to making any home more comfortable while lowering energy costs. Air-conditioners can run less and won’t have to work as hard. Humid, stagnant air can be removed, drawing fresh dry air across the surfaces. Your attic can be drier and cooler – the perfect tools to help fight potential moisture damage.
INDOOR AIR QUALITY
FOUR KEY WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR HOME'S
INDOOR AIR QUALITY:
1. Identify sources of indoor air pollution. Awareness and information are the keys to better understanding indoor air quality.
2. Provide adequate ventilation.Start by removing contaminants with a quiet bathroom fan and a ducted kitchen range hood. Next, dilute contaminants to an acceptable level with a whole-house continuous ventilation system (Air Exchanger). Rapidly eliminating contaminants at the source lessens the possibility of dissipation throughout your home. A constant exchange of stale air with fresh air provides a more healthy, comfortable home.
3. Filter incoming outside air with a whole-house air cleaning system. Using a filtration system in your home will lower the concentration of dust, pollen and other particulates from indoor air.
4. Control indoor humidity. While humidity is not a pollutant, it can create a range of problems, from health concerns to structural problems. Maintain indoor relative humidity between 40 to 60 percent to minimize mold, mildew and other possible hazards.
New SmartSense System
Automatically Improves Indoor Air Quality
Hartford, Wis., December 8, 2006 – So smart you won't be able to sense it, the Broan® SmartSense® Intelligent Ventilation System improves air quality throughout the home – automatically and efficiently. Now homeowners and contractors have an affordable, energy efficient solution to meet the intermittent and continuous ventilation requirements of ASHRAE code 62, according to Tom Heidel, IAQ product manager.
"To maintain a healthy home, it is important to exhaust stale indoor air and minimize opportunities for mold and mildew growth through continuous ventilation throughout the day," says Heidel. "Pollutants such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds and excess moisture are not removed by the filtration units and air cleaning machines that have become so popular today."
Additionally, the Broan SmartSense System provides valuable points towards indoor air quality and energy efficiency that are part of most Green Building programs such as LEED (Leadership in Energy Efficient Design), The National Association of Home Builder's Green Building Guidelines and the ENERGY STAR Home program.

Now you've finished ironing and must take time to fold up the ironing board and put it back into its storage location. Ah, yes leaving the iron on the counter to cool, and then finally after the cool down putting the iron in a safe place. Sounds as if it's certainly a chore in deed!
